Our theme, "The Future of Coaching - Embracing the Opportunities of the 2010s" addresses and incorporated the following key issues of our industry at this time:
There is amazing research being conducted here and abroad, new projects and ideas from around the world being implemented and some big concerns on the landscape as well.
Our market is changing and if we don't pay attention, investigate, redesign and reposition, we are likely to be left in a commercial desert.
Coaches around the world are returning to their old careers or turning their passion for life coaching into a hobby or a distant memory. We can turn this around, and we'll address how we can do that by working together.
The life coaching industry appears to be in decline and it may take more than a year's worth of concerted effort to turn this around. Therefore, what we discuss now will need to become plans for 2009 so that we can reap the rewards of our efforts in the decades to follow.
The structure of the three-days of events was as follows:
This full-day event brings together
participants to discuss the "issues"
as they see them for our profession
and to brainstorm ideas and solutions.
The day will be facilitated and participants
will also form breakout groups with
specific issues to tackle for each group.
Then the groups will come back and create
a manifesto for driving these solutions.
This manifesto and the solutions will
also be highlighted at the Welcome Dinner
and at the conference itself.

- What Do You Know About Performance?” Presented by Alan Parker
This session will not only explore some thought provoking perspectives and powerful messages about Coaching, it will raise some vital questions about Performance and Elite Performance that will take the process that you engage in with your clients to another level.
Spotlight - "Global trends in coaching and what does this mean for the Australian market"
Presented by John Raymond.
Before we can adequately set new objectives and targets, we need to accurately measure our current condition as a profession (we're not an industry yet), as organisations, as collaborative partnerships, as independent businesses, and most importantly, as individuals.
Spotlight - "A Case for Resilience and Wisdom in Coaching for the Future"
Presented by Patti Gwynne.
Attracting great clients and holding the space as a robust business model is the challenge facing the Coaching profession today. WHO are we and WHAT is it that we do well that serves the world.
Spotlight - "The Game of Networking
– Learn effective networking and marketing skills easily"
Presented by Sandhi Spears.
You might want to consider that one of the most important sets of skills required in LIVING IN INTERESTING TIMES are the skills of inspiring leadership, networking and being part of a great community around you.
Spotlight - "What Clients Think But Won't Tell You
- Improving Customer Service"
Presented by Brian Lucas.
Ever wondered why your client has decided not to proceed with your advice? Even though they may have said yes to coaching, they cancel soon after?
Spotlight - "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus … and Gen Y are from Pluto
- What are the implications of the emergence of Gen Y on you and your work?"
Presented by Peter Lightbody.
Do you ever look at Gen Y and wonder if they are from another planet? I do and I’m just a little bit older than them. But this is not a trend we can ignore. Many of our clients are baby boomers and they are retiring. Gen Y are now entering the workforce in growing numbers and they are shaping the way we live and work.
Spotlight - "How do you support transformation if you are not transforming as a coach"
Presented by Rene Sickle.
Have you done an SWOT analysis on your skill set as a coach? Do you do needs analysis with each client? How much time do you spend preparing for your coaching session? Do you spend enough time on your personal development as a coach? How does the scarcity vs. abundant approach impact your practice?
Spotlight - "Accepting Personal Responsibility"
Presented by Angela Heise.
Our task as coaches is to challenge our clients to become more effective. The question is: How do we as coaches challenge ourselves? How do we improve ourselves as coaches? Courses that promise professional credentials, instant recognition and business are plentiful, but what does it really take to be an effective and successful coach?
Spotlight - "The Ultimate Addiction"
Presented by Claire Stretch.
The ultimate addiction of human kind is to the construct of identity that we each have – to who we think we are. When this illusion is seen through, then there’s nothing that is beyond our reach. This can be an exhilarating realisation and it can also be frightening.
Keynote Address - "The Future of Coaching - A Call to Action"
Presented by Noel Posus.
As professional coaches we have individual responsibility to challenge ourselves in the Mastery of Self, Coaching, Business and Industry. This is a call to action for all coaches to step up, demonstrate our commitment and integrity in bigger and bolder ways than ever before, and to take charge of our destiny. We have countless opportunities if we would only seize them. But we also have a limited amount of time to act. The time to act is now.
A Special Event Post Conference Event
- "Raising our Game - The Challenges and Opportunities for the Coaching Profession
"
Sir John Whitmore.
Coaching has come a long way in it’s 20 year life, and it is now widely accepted and sought after in the world of work, but are we becoming complacent, are we missing great opportunities?
Globalisation, instant communication, terrorism, economic instability and climate change are challenging our leaders like never before and how willing, but more importantly, how able are we to provide the support that is so urgently needed.
Noel Posus, Master Coach with 20 years experience in a variety of coaching roles and landscapes will facilitate this one-day workshop to support coaches to identify where they are at now in terms of mastery of themselves, coaching, their business environment and within the coaching industry. This awareness is then used to challenge and set objectives for each area and develop and implement real and practical development plans.
