Positive Daily Action
Fine tuning personal effectiveness skills is extremely empowering. I’ve found the following technique useful in delivering true results. It involves recognising the following areas of my daily actions then stepping up and taking positive action for the day;
|
•
•
•
•
|
Identify the key skills needed to succeed every day (this changes on a daily basis as a result of what has gone before)
Develop an effective practical daily plan of action which incredibly raises personal levels of confidence
Acknowledge one’s own true potential in both career and personal lifestyles (its vital not to ponder on limits, I’m speaking here about having a wider vision)
Choose to overcome personal barriers that pop up – choice is the bedrock of results.

P.S. I would love to know how you operate your PDA, do write to me at the

Editors Letter
Dear Subscribers
It’s already April, sixteen weeks since the bells tolled for 2010 and New Year Resolutions were made. How’s it been for you?
Personally life has thrown several challenges into my life, directing me from my focus thus delaying my goals to manifest. I’m sure I’m not alone with having to deal with setbacks along the journey to success. The daily news always has an offering of doom and gloom somewhere in the world. However I’ve come to the conclusion that the majority of challenges are emotional. To find out why I and Oprah Winfrey say that, please read ‘New Goals making it happen and enjoying the process’.
Whether you are a personal life coach, business coach even a spiritual journey practitioner it makes no difference as there are so many specialist coaches within our profession what does make the difference is that we all have one main focus in common, that’s people development, at every level from the maintenance staff to the board of directors. The right training includes goal setting a significant tool that brings measurable results often impacting both personal development and the business bottom line. Enjoy the articles we’ve assembled for you this issue and lots of luck in achieving your goals.
Last month in the Future Features section I listed;
‘New Goals - set a goal to join the IIC coaching community and thrive’.
How did you get on, did you return to your list of goals and tick off those achieved replacing them with new fresh uplifting dreams ready to be achieved?
If you have an uplifting and inspirational story to tell then why not share it with thousands of our readers, share your inspiring journey and together we can lift the vibration of our coaching community and build dreams.
Yours in Coaching

New Goals: Making It Happen and Enjoying the Process
Goal setting is the key to extraordinary achievement, a means that provides direction, meaning and purpose to life. It’s a reason to create a list of items for recognising and celebrating success.
The majority of people don’t even set goals, they live their lives in response to situations - a typical reactive response. On the other hand goal oriented people live their lives on purpose a proactive choice, following through until they achieve the outcome they desire.
Have You Written Your Bucket List Yet?
Just like actors, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in the film, The Bucket List, a story about two terminally ill men who escape from a cancer ward and head off on a road trip with a wish list.
Seriously though have you written your list yet? You don’t want to run out of time. I’ve written mine, it’s a priority for me and I review it every day, there is no way I would allow situations in life vie with my focus and steer me off target. I make it my business to understand my wants in life and I endeavour to drive my lifestyle towards my goal. You know when the demands of everyday life drop its frustrations and distractions at your door the momentum of goal achievement can slow down. That’s why it’s so important to take the opportunity to work with a highly skilled coach for your personal success. It’s such a powerful experience.
Why Are Goals So Important?
If you take the time to assess your current position in life you’ll begin to understand why you want to live a certain way and you’ll automatically be able to identify your goals in order of significance, you’ll cherish your goals more. That is why goals are so important.
Why Is It Important To Set Goals?
Your internal representations make you what you are, they manifest themselves onto your outer persona, so being creative in your thinking will release your true being. Quite literally your thoughts will voice themselves into your sub-conscious thus impacting on your abilities, you’ll act out what you think about.
Therefore by using your thinking power to manage your belief system you’ll be able to use your auditory, kinaesthetic and visual processes to cue in and reinforce your goals, by these endeavours removing limiting beliefs.
Emotions
Passion is an emotion, which affects personal effectiveness. The key to personal success is the knack to have power over your emotional behaviour. Goal setting does influence the mind set in a positive way and can help you to be in charge of your lifestyle.
Why not give it a go and set yourself some new goals this month.
Top Tip
Goals and setting goals is in essence a fabulous experience. So why not capture your goals in your own Vision Board.
In other words create your very own Treasure Map, it’s so simple and fulfilling, give it a go and enjoy the journey.
A vision board is basically a large poster with pictures, drawings and text about what you want in life, which special people you’d like to share your new found lifestyle with, where you want to live, work and play.
Make A Vision Board
Begin as you mean to go on, make it fun. Look through your magazines, photograph albums and if you have the talent draw your images. Write text that inspires you including songs and poems.
Stick everything you’ve gathered together onto your large poster including a fantastic photograph of yourself, stick that in the centre of your Vision Board.
When you’ve finished creating you vision on paper hang it up in a place where you will see it – now go out there and really make those visions come true.
Your Questions Answered
How do you deal with a client who you feel needs counselling and not coaching?
It may become apparent during a coaching relationship that the client needs to revisit a past experience which has caused the problem. The coaching process does not need this to occur to be massively effective for individuals working towards their goals.
If this is the case, then the coach must serve the client’s best interests as their top priority and it may be best to terminate the coaching relationship and suggest they contact a counsellor instead. The coach must ensure that they are honest with the individual and explain the different benefits to be gained by the different services in a supportive and empathic manner.
It is always advisable the coaches develop professional relationships with a range of complementary specialists and it would help if the coach had a referral process for such an occasion, so that the client receives the highest value experience.
Maintaining Your Focus with a Coach
The moment you set yourself a goal, you have a direction and a path.
When you initially set a goal the desire is great and confidence is at a high. However, as soon as you have a path you will encounter challenges and obstacles that will test your motivation and perseverance towards achieving that goal. The only way to work towards goal achievement is to take realistic, consistent steps to continually make progress.
Taking regular steps towards a goal you have set is often easier said than done. When you only have yourself to stay motivated it is naturally difficult to maintain consistent focus when your attention is so often required elsewhere. Quite often the daily demands of life take priority and before you realise it a substantial amount of time has passed since you last took any action to move forward.
Sometimes, making progress involves undertaking new opportunities, stretching your comfort zone, overcoming fears or negative beliefs. All of these challenges can leave your progress at a standstill, motivation severely reduced and increase the risk of talking yourself out of achieving the goal altogether.
It is for these reasons that employing a coach is of such massive benefit. Each session allows the client time out to truly focus on their goals, assess the progress they have made and commit to further steps to continue the momentum forward. They become empowered to take responsibility for their actions and accountable to the coach for their progress.
Sometimes it is clear to an individual the challenge that is holding them back. Often times though a client does not know the causes of their blocks. With the non-judgemental support of a highly skilled coach, they can develop greater understanding and self-awareness and work to overcoming any blocks in order to continue on their journey towards their goal.
Having a coach is very often the difference between reaching your full potential and achieving your goals, and losing focus and remaining where you are…. always wondering what might have been. Which would you choose?

IIC Member Benefit Spotlight: ICR
 The
International Coaching Register is for any individual who trades as a
Coach, who help individuals and/or organisations for example, establish a
work life balance, manage stress levels and build communication skills
amongst many other specialist areas.
Everyone who has qualified as a Coach with a recognised Coach training
company should now take the opportunity to register. This will dramatically
cut down on any misrepresentation that goes on within the industry. Many
people have websites and call themselves a
Coach but have no actual qualifications. The register will stop these
people and raise the profile of genuine Coaching and how it can transform
people’s lives.
President of the IIC Gerard O’Donovan said “the register has
been administered by the IIC for the benefit of the world of Coaching and
Coaching clients. It is also a great way for Coaches to get business as
members of the public can search for registered Coaches in their area. It
brings Coaching transparency at last.”

A Day in the Life… of Goal Setting
My day typically begins with a good look at my vision board and checking my diary. I know that my daily activity reflects upon bringing my goals closer.
Despite years of personal development training, it’s only in the last year that I have actually ‘got’ the whole issue of goals and how to make my goals a reality and manifest them.
I’ve found that for me to really help my clients I had to begin walking my own talk, so I put together a formula to bring about goal realisation.
Objective
To manifest the next move towards goal.
To know what you truly long for, to have an accurate belief and take consistent action;
= Longing x Accurate Belief x Action.
The Ideal
If you were to score Longing, Belief and Action out of 10, with 10 being high, you’d come up with a figure out of 1,000 showing you how likely you are to change.
If the value of any one of these is zero, the likelihood of change is zero.
Scary Realisation
Often we think that 7 out of 10 is an acceptable number, but 7 x 7 x 7 only gives you a total of 343 – way too low out of 1,000.
The best way forward is to work extensively on pinning down what you really want – not just idle wishes, a true longing. Put these onto a vision board – make it really specific and focused on just one or two ‘longings’. Then work on your belief systems, really feel the belief internally.
“Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here, we may as well dance” – Unknown
