Positive Daily Action
Success I’ve been told requires daily action,
not dis-similar to the words quoted by Henry D. Thoreau
in our inspiration quotation section. Now is the ideal
time to set your course for 2011.
P.S. I would love to know how you operate your PDA, dowrite to me at the IIC and share. Back to Top

FEAR

Appearing
Real
I wonder how many people use fear as an excuse to make
incorrect judgements about their life because they decide
to base their life on what might happen.
The power of fear can at times unleash emotions that work
against success.

Thought of the Month
Setting the Scene
Imagination is a powerful tool. It’s been said if you can imagine it you can achieve it. What do you think?
Napoleon Hill (26/10/1883 - 8/11/1970) once said:
“First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.”

 Editors Letter Dear Subscribers
This month I celebrate with the team at IIC and you the readers one year
as Editor of our Global and Insights newsletters. It’s
been a fun filled, fabulous and sometimes fraught year.
I look forward to many more years to come volunteering to
bring to you each month articles that inspire, educate and
serve you well in your coaching businesses.
2010 has been an interesting year for me personally and
I am sure for many of you. I have to admit that the past
months have proved a time of unequivocal learning as I have
made a significant discovery in my own personal development,
due to the very directness of my coach, and the gigantic
learning curve I’ve experienced in how to create more
of my coaching business by recognising how I am in my everyday
working life, how I go about doing business and evaluating
the results that I attain. How true is the occurrence I’ve
just spoken of about ‘learning’ been for you,
if at all?
I’ve also noticed that there are so many good coaches
scattered around the globe yet they are not having the results
they so richly deserve. So what do they need to do to get
into the ranks of the top 1% - 2% coaches? The answer may
well be in our articles within this months’ newsletters,
or perhaps within the archive section on the IIC web site,
go have a look and tap into the many resources we have put
together just for you.
Reflection, Setting The scene, and Moving forward are three
topics that seem to me to be relevant for the coming 2011
twelve months ahead. With 2011 literally days away have
you organised your own business strategies for the next
financial quarter and beyond? Will 2011 be a significantly
better year of business for you? I know it will if you get
on and do what needs to be done, consistently.
How does psychology fit into your coaching business and
the subject of financial management including the legal
business structure you’ve set up to operate and protect
yourself, your intellectual property and acquired assets
you produce from your main coaching cash machine? Some of
those answers you’ll find in our article ‘Moving
Forward’, with many more insights coming next year.
Of course, you do need to realise that this style of thinking
is non-negotiable, if you want success you have to apply
yourself to getting it. So my message to you is get organised
and get ready for a fabulously, stunning and exceptional
New Year 2011.
Yours in Coaching, PaTrisha-Anne Todd, LCSi, AFC Newsletter Editor Back to Top

“Are you ready? The holiday season is almost on
us. This can be a great time for all! You probably
have some clients who are really positive about this
season and some who will need your special touch to
help them through the season. We all wish you,
your family, and your clients have a healthy and happy
session. By the way, have you made your new year's
resolution yet? Why not make a resolve to invite
one coach to join the IIC family of professional coaches?”
Robert Bonhag & Steve Breski
 Inspirational Quotation
“You cannot dream yourself into a character: you must hammer
and forge yourself into one.”
Henry D. Thoreau July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862.
Born David Henry Thoreau, was an American author, poet,
abolitionist and naturalist.
The character of a person does imply their personality
and moral fibre, we as coaches willingly display our
true spirit when coaching with clients. In fact the
whole client satisfaction experience is a huge part
of what we stand for in our business working mechanism.
Here are 4 pointers that you might choose to deploy
within your Client Satisfaction Charter;
- Provide your clients with a truly royal coaching
experience. Simply be the best you can be. I promise
you your clients won’t forget you and will reward
you by remain loyal and gladly recommending your coaching
service to their friends and business associates.
- Display a personable appearance at all times both
in person and in your voice presentation.
Professional conduct needn’t be pompous, keep
your attitude and actions pleasant yet proficient from
beginning to end with an expert command of coaching
skill at all times.
- Punctuality is vital, it is part of the back bone
of your business. Explain to your clients that punctuality
from both sides of the relationship will ensure mutual
respect and maximum value to each coaching session.
- Budget, both yours and your client have your own
economic commitments, therefore make it clear from the
beginning your payment terms and conditions of working
together.
We all know there are no guarantees in life, yet as
coaches we are privileged to have the options to live
life by design and share that philosophy with other
enlightened persons.
Top Tip - New Year goals and outcomes
New Year goals and outcomes are currently the topic
for the close of the year. Go right ahead now and plot
your course for next year, decide upon the actions you’ll
take in order to realise the goals and the outcomes you
expect from that action. Remember you have the absolute
authority to change the goal posts as and when needed.
Good luck.
 Moving Forward
I just love moving forward, it’s something I attempt to do every single
day, in a way I guess it’s part of my core belief
system and what gets me out of bed each day.
More times than I can remember I have asked members of
my coaching club how many of you have people around you
who support you in the decisions you make for your business
and personal life? This is such an important success factor
that it has to be worked on sooner rather than later.
To do that a formula drops into place, not luck but a
realistic strategic plan of action that allows you to
get clear on what you really want and allows you to do
what you can do.
Once you know what you want and that clarity is within
your thinking process you can add the next strategic step
of focusing on making more. In other words making what
you want happen by applying your resources and energy
into making things happen. Things that are important in
your life, in your business and that add to what you have.
Remember not to take on the negative emotion of worry
and concern about not achieving, no, no, do not go there,
rather be pro-active and work on creating more of what
you want.
This style of thinking is non-negotiable, if you want
success you have to apply yourself to getting it. So my
message to you is get organised and get ready for a fabulously,
stunning and exceptional New year 2011.
There is something quite magical about the festivities
of each new year. It’s such a special time, particularly
for those who are looking forward to achieving our goals,
somehow this year is going to be ‘different’.
Good news is on the horizon coaching helps makes goals
happen. Even though challenges pop up now and then, coaching
helps to make those challenges disappear and those of
us who have a coach will be glad we worked with our coach
to help us step up towards our goal and move out of the
dreaded comfort zone.
Comfort Zone
Behaviour is what dictates the comfort zone. Personal
performance is measured by what we achieve and a person’s
personality is the result of their comfort zone.
To step up and out of the comfort zone for a bigger goal
requires reprogramming of the mental attitude and belief
system. Highly successful people make it a priority to
step out of their current comfort zone whenever they have
the desire to change their current level of lifestyle
and achieve yet another goal.
Move Forward and enjoy the Challenge
Now is the best time to step up and move forward, so in
closing I encourage you to do exactly that, be brave face
your fears and take the opportunity to understand that
in life there is absolutely no emotion you cannot overcome
when you dip into clarity. Exponential results are waiting
to happen for you. You only need to choose to take action
and decide to move forward.
Forgiveness – the key to freedom
As we speed towards the end of the
year balancing the extra demands of gift buying, school
children’s festivities, career demands, family
arrangements and social engagements, I’m sure
we will all catch a few moments to cast our minds back
over the events this year has presented to us.
Amongst all that has occurred there will have been moments
where interactions with others have not been as harmonious
as hoped. Events such as these often take time to recover
from and many of us often dwell on how that occasion
could have been more positive, how they could have behaved
differently, what happened to contribute to the negative
outcome which occurred. These events could range from
a relationship/friendship conflict, clash with a colleague
at work, a rude response from a customer or a general
misunderstanding or breakdown in communication.
Although it is useful to reflect on such interactions
with a positive frame of mind so that we can assess
objectively what occurred and learn from it, it rarely
serves us to re-play events over and over again. This
can also create limiting beliefs about our abilities
as individuals.
American author, ethicist and theologian, Lewis B Smedes
(1921-2002) said “To forgive is to set a prisoner
free and discover that the prisoner was you”.
For clients stuck in this cycle of thought, I would
suggest they work to understand and forgive what happened,
in stages that they feel appropriate for them. It is
important to encourage a client to investigate the particular
event which is dominating their thoughts, perhaps from
the other person’s point of view or as if they
are looking down from a cloud at themselves and the
other individual. This aids a clearer perspective and
a reduction in emotions which are attached to it.
Coaching can support a client release the negative emotions
which have built up and help raise their level of self-awareness,
which in turn starts to release the power that event
has over them. When they can detach themselves from
repeating the event and acknowledge any limiting beliefs
which have stemmed from it, they are then free to move
forward and progress further with their goals.
In such situations it is helpful to remember that everyone
is performing at their best given the circumstances,
information and resources they have at that very moment.
It is always possible for them to improve their behaviour
or performance as they grow with further learning, information,
improved self-awareness and reflection.
When working with clients, helping them release the
stress and worry which can build up from these past
negative events creates great freedom for them to focus
on other empowering thoughts to support the goals they
have identified. Each and every episode, whether positive
or negative, can be learnt from and supports your personal
growth.
American minister and author Catherine Ponder (1927
– present) said “When you hold resentment
toward another, you are bound to that person or condition
by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness
is the only way to dissolve that link and get free”
Not only is it important to relieve stress by forgiving
the other person or the situation, it is absolutely
vital to forgive yourself. Perhaps you feel that you
could have responded more positively, controlled what
you said, or done more to facilitate a happier outcome.
Although some reflection aids the learning process,
it is important to accept that what happened was in
the past, cannot be changed and is only adding to your
mental burden by allowing it to dominate your thoughts
any more than necessary.
Make one of your goals for this festive season forgiveness.
Release the past, learn from the year and move forward
into the New Year with passion, love and commitment
to yourself and others.
