Inspirational Quotation“We tend to minimize the things that we can do, the goals that we can accomplish, and for some equally strange reason we think other people can do things that we cannot.”
- Earl Nightingale 1921-1989
born in Los Angeles, California and known as a philosopher and pioneer in personal development. He wrote ‘The Strangest Secret’ a message he said was about ‘the irony of it all - that this truth of why we become, whatever it is we become, is no ‘secret’ at all, and therefore, it’s ‘strange’ that we don’t all know about it” Nightingale is also the author of that inspirational phrase “We become what we think about”.

Attitude of Gratitude In my search for an inspiring acronym for this month’s edition I found AOG. Each letter got me thinking about how often I, even you, give thanks for what we have?
Actually how often does the average person stop and find something in their life to be thankful about, a reason that their life has been blessed with what they have. Try a little AOG and see how your life can change

Editors Letter Dear Subscribers Imagine having the skills to be able to dramatically help people to become healthier, wiser, wealthier and of course happier. Luckily coaching allows exactly that to happen. Of course results are dependent on the level of commitment of the individual coaching clients, however, through our volition we as coaches can become experts in raising the bar of human potential and assisting our communities in making this place a better world to live in. Skills learning is vital for self improvement and on-going goal achievement, however, I’d like to take a step sideways and speak a little on varying parts of the whole in respect of an Attitude of Gratitude. First, I’ll mention Abraham Lincoln, the 16th American President 1861-65, for he said “And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” Next I’d like to draw your attention to Alvin Law a Canadian man who was born in the 1960’s without arms, due to his birth mother taking just a couple of the tiny pills of the morning sickness medication - Thalidomide. It’s fascinating how the human spirit can rise to extreme heights through having a positive mental attitude. Read the newsletter section ‘A Day in the Life of…’, you’ll not only be inspired about the video’s Alvin has recorded for us to view, but I’m certain your attitude of gratitude will deepen. Then of course we must not forget some of the inspirational ladies of this world; Like: - Saint Joan of Arc, also know as, The Maid of Orléans, France ca. 1412 – 30 May 1431 a peasant girl who led the French army to several victories during the hundred years’ war. Joan of Arc was indirectly responsible for the coronation of Charles VII.
- Sylvia Pankhurst, the daughter of Dr. Richard Pankhurst and Emmeline Pankhurst. Sylvia was born in Manchester in 1882. She was a published author - 1911 The History of the Women's Suffrage Movement.
- Amy Johnson, pioneer UK Aviatrix. Born in Hull, Yorkshire on July 1st 1903 - January 5th 1941 when she crashed into the Thames estuary and was drowned.
- Rhonda Byrne, born March 12th 1951 is an Australian television writer and producer, known for ‘The Secret’ a book and a film by the same name.
No matter whom you may draw upon for inspiration they all have one thing in common, and that’s an attitude of determination. Attitude and gratitude are perfectly in line with each other, they form a partnership of conscious endeavour. Please read our May newsletter to discover more about the Attitude of Gratitude. Both attitude and gratitude have corresponding elements that support personal performance coaching and business success. Attitude does have several definitions, today I am discussing the one that can be expressed as an individuals action based upon what they think, like, dislike and are convicted by. Gratitude has its root in Latin, the word ‘gratia’ related to the terms of gratefulness, grace and graciousness. Couple the two words together and you have an Attitude of Gratitude.
Connection Between Attitude of Gratitude and Personal Performance Coaching I believe all thoughts, all actions are connected, so personal performance beginnings with self and expressing genuine heartfelt appreciation of the good and all that we do have, which in turn does wonders for the moral, it lifts the mood, aligns your thought processes, empowers the inner core and amazingly boosts your immune system with endorphins known as the natural happy drug giving a sense of euphoria. Yet sometimes we can focus on what we lack, allowing our negative emotions to get the better of us. It’s so easy to compare ourselves with other peoples’ lifestyles appearing to have more.
Metaphysical Level of Attitude and Gratitude
On this type of level an attitude of gratitude is classed as a powerful universal law, that when used correctly gets results. By confirming an appreciation for what you have and the attributes and blessings you have received in your life, the law works its fascination. In other words, this simply means whatever you think about, you impress on your subconscious mind so your conscious mind will turn it into a reality. Your energy, your vibrations will fall into sync with the lure of your thoughts. Practice the Law of Gratitude Daily It’s so easy when you know how and here are three tips that could explode your thinking, increase your wealth and give you the grace to keep on.
1. Each day purposefully look for things in your life that you are grateful for. Make an effort to be ‘in gratitude’ and harmony with your inner core, this way you’ll raise your vibration and expound your world.
2. I’m sure within your personal development journey and business you have been encouraged by your mentors to write your goals and the route you’ve chosen towards achievement either electronically or in paper format, either way - write, explore your mind and write your thoughts down. So, now is the time to keep a rather special Law of Gratitude journal. Begin simply, perhaps with "I am grateful for today and all of my experiences", or "I am grateful for my family, my friends and the opportunity to work". Explore and be grateful. 3. Finally, keep a Gratitude Stone in your pocket, handbag as a constant anchor and reminder of the wealth, health, joy and happiness you do have. Whenever you see or touch your stone you’ll remember, you’ll be greatful.
Each of these three actions will lift your spirits and create a sense of positive emotion that will aid you to take good action towards the goals you hold in your heart.
Top Tip - Take Anger Out of Your Life
Seasons come and go, anger, annoyance, resentment do as well; anger can be felt as a small annoyance or a deep rooted resentment, when this happens all good vibes go flying out of the window. Anger is a waste of time and emotions especially if it gets out of control and turns destructive, even fatal!
Relaxation: A Part of Anger ManagementWhy be annoyed or even resentful of someone or a situation when the energy could be spent not in anger but channelled into a more profitable resource – like; exercise, cleaning, decorating, music making, writing. There really is no need to provoke the negative human emotion of anger.
Instead create an atmosphere of tranquillity and calm around yourself and within your mind, a necessary requirement to change your mood for the better. Make forwarding thinking choices, take a few risks if need be and be courageous enough to square up to a rigorous personal development plan.
The Top Tip for today is to encourage you to take it easy, relax and stay focused on your goal.
Your Questions Answered How do I know what is an appropriate rate for my coaching services? This is a very common question. Firstly, remember that you are a qualified professional who has spent, and will continue to spend, many hours of your time training and developing your coaching skills. Although this is your choice, it is time that you could have spent doing other things you enjoy and sharing your time with the people who are important to you. Secondly, remember that clients employ coaches to improve an aspect, or several aspects, of their life. The client has reached a point where an improvement or change is extremely desired, which is why they have chosen a coach to help them, and therefore the goals they wish to achieve hold a high value in their lives. They also believe that they will not be able to achieve this highly desired change by themselves and are looking for a professional coach to assist them on their journey. When you understand how important time is and appreciate the value of time for both yourself and your clients you’ll also become aware of how essential it is to place a value on your coaching services – a true market value that is. You’ll interpret that by shifting your mind set to the value of money, your time, your professional expertise as a coach and be in a mindful position to charge the going rate.
It is also interesting to remember that people become wary of the quality of a service which they perceive is priced too low; therefore always do your market research, see what other coaches in your niche and area are charging then cost out your coaching fees accordingly.

 Appreciate to Achieve
Achieving our full potential is dependent on taking positive action to move towards the goals we set ourselves and in order to enable us to do that we need to develop a consistent empowering mindset. The urge to change and develop is often born out of a desire to want something more, something better, but there is a danger that this drive can become stressful and make us become ‘needy’. An excellent way to release the negative impact of wanting change is to appreciate, and be thankful for, what we already have. In our busy lives it is easy to overlook or take for granted everything around us that supports our efforts to perform at our best and achieve what we set out to do. By focusing on what we already have automatically switches us to a more positive mindset. It is important to appreciate every small thing from the roof over our heads protecting us, to our health allowing us to take realistic steps forwards; from the ability to change our thinking to support ourselves to the support of those around us; from the skills and knowledge we already possess to the ability to continually learn more. Creating this mindset and focusing on the positive will make you feel good, relieve stress and allow more positive experiences into your life. Tips for Developing Appreciation 1. One way to start the shift is to write a list of all the things you appreciate and are thankful for over the course of a few days. From the moment you wake up be thankful for the good sleep you had allowing you to perform at your best, the food you have to sustain you through the day etc, etc. You will be amazed when you start to appreciate everything how long the list will become. This will also provide you with a boost to your self-esteem and confidence when you become more aware of the support and resources you have, which creates an excellent foundation to set action plans to achieve your goals.
2. Whilst it is vital to appreciate your own attributes it is also important to appreciate the efforts of those around you. "Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well." Voltaire - French writer and philosopher 1694–1778. Knowing those around you are performing at the best they possibly can and appreciating their efforts unconditionally, provides enormous support. It enables you to recognise different skills in others and share the benefits. By acknowledging the value in others strengthens our relationships and creates further support.
3. One way to achieve more clarity and reduce stress is to appreciate the moment you are in and everything that is supporting you in that very moment. Spending time appreciating the moment can be extremely refreshing, ease the burdens of stress and worry from either past events or those in the future, and gain greater perspective of your situation. From this, greater awareness can be gained to further develop the goals you have set. In appreciation thank you for taking the time to read this article.
IIC Member Benefit Spotlight: ICR The International Coaching Register is for any individual who trades as a Coach, who help individuals and/or organisations for example, establish a work life balance, manage stress levels and build communication skills amongst many other specialist areas. A Day in the Life… Alvin Law
“Attitude is more than just being positive…it’s a way of looking at life, ours and everybody’s. It is said to be Everything because it is Everything. It defines who we are and what we become!” Alvin LawI don’t know Alvin Law personally to be able to outline a typical day in his life, but I do know that he lives each and every day with a total attitude of gratitude – and he has done ever since he was a tiny baby. I was privileged to hear Alvin speak at a Professional Speakers Association conference a few years ago and was blown away by what Alvin has achieved and by his attitude to life.
Alvin was born without arms after his natural mother took the drug thalidomide for morning sickness. He was adopted by Hilda Law who not only took him in, but noticed that little Alvin simply used his feet to do what other babies did with their hands. She encouraged him and he grew up continually challenging the world around him particularly those who said he would never be independent nor be able do a whole range of activities because he didn’t have arms.
Today, Alvin is totally independent and does more than many people who have all their limbs. He focuses on what he does have rather than what he doesn’t. Despite having no arms, Alvin plays the trombone, piano and drums to an extraordinary level.
Alvin is totally inspirational and has written about his 5 laws, ‘A-L-V-I-N’ the first being about the law of ‘Attitude’. You only have to read Alvin’s story to understand how his attitude has made a massive difference to the quality of his life.
You’ll never feel the same way about ‘your’ attitude again.
