It is important that you select the right Coach for you and/or your organisation because the end result will/may depend on it. The Coach you select will hold you, or the person in your organisation working with the Coach, accountable for reaching the desired results. Make an informed choice by considering these questions before making your final selection:
What specific coach training does the Coach have?
Has the Coach provided independent verification of their coach training and experience? This can be demonstrated by an independent accreditation and/or credential. All the IIC Coaches are accredited and full details of each level of accreditation can be found by clicking here.
What type of experience / background do you want your Coach to have?
What experience is a pre-requisite to understanding the complexity of your scenario?
What style of coaching are you looking for? Are you looking for a Coach who will provide a combination of coaching and experience of your industry, or someone who provides a specific type of coaching?
Has the Coach satisfactorily provided details of their background?
Is the Coach transparent about their coaching? If the type of coach you are looking for is not found on the IIC's Coach Referral Service, have you referenced the Intl. Coaching Register?
What references/testimonials does the Coach provide?
Does the Coach understand the brief and boundaries of what you are searching for?
How clear are you about the differences between Coaching / Mentoring / Training, and which will meet your exact needs and expectations?
Does the Coach belong to a Professional Coaching Body?
Does the Coach have Professional Indemnity Insurance?
What is your anticipated length of commitment for this coaching relationship?
What procedures does the Coach have in place to formalise
the coaching relationship?
What format of coaching are you looking for? Face-2-face - Telephone - Internet - Email - Individual - Group - Team
Does the Coach provide an introductory session that allows you to know whether you could effectively communicate with this Coach?
To ensure a positive outcome, it is important
that you and your Coach are a 'good fit',
that you feel motivated, and are comfortable
being challenged. Therefore, we suggest
that you interview about three Coaches.
